On the weekend of 30th August to 1st September CUMPC had a rather intense pre-term training weekend held in Padbury / Buckingham.
It all started on Friday afternoon with some shooting practise, a steady run and some hardcore strength and conditioning work. Credit must go to our President Jontie here for trying to get us back into shape. Following dinner, an early night was called for ahead of a busy Saturday.
We kicked off Saturday with Buckingham Parkrun. Great performance for this time of year from Men’s captain, Loïc to finish 5th just outside 20 mins. Note to pentathletes to remember their barcodes in the future! We were then joined by some more CUMPC athletes ready for a fencing session at Buckingham Community Centre. It turns out fencing is even more tiring than usual if it follows a hard run! We did a bit of stretching at the start to give us chance to recover followed by a session where we focussed on footwork and parrys – attempting to remind ourselves of what we knew last year. Post lunch we had a much needed break which we used for some team bonding. This involved at obstacle course in the local park and some touch rugby for those with some energy left!
Next up was a combined session (run and shoot) – we focussed on controlling our breathing coming into the range before finishing with some relays. To finish the day we had a swim session at Swan Pool and Leisure Centre. Naoki, a recent Old Blue, kindly coached us and put us through our paces!
Sunday was almost the reverse of Saturday starting with a return to the pool followed by fencing. A quick lunch was followed by riding at Liscombe Park Equestrian Centre. It was fab to get our horsey fix and a refresher lesson before the chaos of term starts.
Overall, this was a great weekend where current CUMPC athletes, Old Blues and new recruits (Ben wins the prize for keenest novice)! CUMPC are ready for the year ahead. Bring it on!
